Voted the
Best of The Interstate
106 S Gillette Ave. | Gillette, WY | (307) 660-3199 | I-90 Exit 126
Located off I-90 at Exit 126 in Gillette, ‘Big Lost’ is one of only two meaderies in Wyoming – but it is the only one you can drink out of a horn at! Specializing in malt-focused, craft, classic style beer, and various styles of handcrafted mead (an alcoholic beverage created by fermenting honey with water, sometimes with various fruits, spices, grain, or hops), ‘Big Lost’ offers an experience unlike any other.
Opened at 10:11am on 12/13/14, ‘Big Lost’ is owned and run by local Fire Captain Sam Clikeman and his partner, Bob. They designed ‘Big Lost’ around a ‘cabin’ concept – mismatched, hand-built furniture, fireplace, cozy, and relaxing. And no TVs; just good old-fashioned conversation.
Be sure to let 'Big Lost ' know that you heard about them through BestofTheInterstate.com!
‘Big Lost’ is based off an ideal – a legend of a cabin hidden in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming, a place lost to the tenors of modern society. Many legendary folks, that of the likes of ancient pillagers, have visited this cabin and remind us to remember that there is a time and place to be lost to the rest of the world and focus on mankind.
A place where the fire is always lit and the door is always open, with no phones, televisions, or heartless stimuli – to enjoy an opportunity for true fellowship with old friends and new friends alike. As such, the cabin painting below can be seen on all ‘Big Lost’ labels.

In the downstairs area of ‘Big Lost’, you can visit their Speakeasy Firefighter Museum – if you know the right word to get in (or ask the bartender during a slow time). You can also find the game Bags, along with numerous other board games – to play with new or old friends while enjoying a mead, mead cocktail, or beer.
The bell in the photo above was hand-made and etched by retired Gillette firefighter, Larry Haselwood. The bar in ‘Big Lost’ is the old bar from Fire Station 1, and Larry was 1 of 3 to build it back in the 1980s. He was able to enjoy a glass of mead at the bar on the day ‘Big Lost’ opened; his 70th birthday.

It takes 6 months to make the standard version of mead, and up to 10 years for other kinds. ‘Big Lost’ makes their own mead each year with over 39,000 lbs. of clover honey from a local producer in Harding, Montana. ‘Crazy Woman’ and ‘Wild Man’ are the two constant flavors of mead offered, but the flavors of mead on tap are constantly changing.
Although ‘Big Lost’ does not have a kitchen, they can place orders for delivery from ‘The Railyard‘ – the restaurant across the street. They also offer brewed-in-house beer on tap.
Be sure to get off at Exit 126 on I-90 and visit ‘Big Lost Meadery & Brewery’ on your next road trip through Gillette, WY, for a unique experience unlike any other! Pay homage to Vikings by drinking out of a horn, and
