10 Things I've Learned RVing from
South Dakota to Wyoming
(thoughts from the passenger seat)

  1.   It’s not worth it to have glass wine glasses in an RV. Two broken wine glasses later… Who was I trying to impress anyways?
  2.   You can see the curvature of the Earth in central South Dakota.
  3.   Sometimes your campground site doesn’t allow for a single hose to reach. Take advantage of the opportunity to quote RV to your camping buddy/significant other (“You’re gonna need another hose”) and suggest connecting said hoses with a Y cuplink. If they don’t get the reference, they shouldn’t own an RV.
  4.   Trees are a rare sight on the South Dakota national grassland, and look out of place when they do exist. It’s a good drive to reenact that “I Spy” scene from Brother Bear on. “I spy..something..brown? Tree!…”
  5.   That thing that happens with Robin Williams in RV with the seatbelt, that’s real. Happens 1 out of 3 times. It gets old, too, pretty quick.
  6.    Driving on the interstate in Wyoming and South Dakota during winter, and seeing how bad the roads can get makes The Shining feel more relevant.
  7.    It’s not helpful – for anyone’s sanity – to try remembering when the last time you saw another car on the interstate was in January on I-90 in Wyoming. Unless you’re attempting to get rid of a body…then I guess that would be a good thing to keep track of.
  8.    If you’re putting a slide out and you hear a sound that doesn’t sound quite right, probably a good idea to stop. Might be the awning ripping.
  9.    There are a lot of shrubs in eastern Wyoming for the Knights of the Round Table to pick from.. Nice ones, too – not too expensive.
  10.    Try to make your pets as comfortable as possible for the trip. I suggest putting out a blanket on every hard surface and covering the couch. Don’t be insulted if they choose to sleep on top of a hard cabinet despite your best efforts.

*If you got all my references, go ahead and pat yourself on the back. We could be friends.
