Top 5 Healthy Snacks for Road Trips: How to Avoid Fast-Food

Here at America’s Road Trip, we know that eating healthy on the road can be quite difficult. Everywhere you go, there’s a McDonald’s or Wendy’s or In-N-Out. It’s hard to say no, especially since fast-food is so easy to get and tastes so good. Unfortunately, fast-food is not as good for you as it tastes.
So here are some road trip snacks to keep you eating healthy on the road!
“I would rather own a little and see the world, than own the world and see a little.” – Alexander Sattler
1. Trail Mix
A great, always healthy alternative! My favorite parts are the M&Ms, but it’s a great balance of protein, sugar, and fiber – and kids love it! I’ll also add pretzels in the ‘trail mix’ category.
2. Skinny-Pop Popcorn
Look – I’m getting skinnier already eating a whole bag!
Well, that may not be the case, but Skinny Pop Popcorn is one snack that tastes great without all the calories!
Buy a 24-pk of 65 ounce single bags at Amazon for $14.45 ($0.86/ounce)
3. Fresh fruit
I like to eat, eat, eat, apples and bananas…. Apples, bananas, clementines, oranges, grapes, strawberries – you name the fruit, and I can guarantee it’s better for you than a Taco Bell Dorito taco (or whatever they’re called). Even dried fruit is fun: raisins, apricots, plums, etc.
4. Fresh Vegetables
And what better to come after fresh fruit than fresh vegetables! Carrots (even better when dipped in peanut butter), celery, cucumbers, peppers (dip these in hummus!!), cherry tomatoes, broccoli, etc..
5. Granola Bars
Saving what I think is the best for last! While some granola bars may contradict the “healthy” theme that we’re going for here, there are quite a few that provide a lot of protein and fiber – and that taste good too! These include: Annie’s Granola Bars, CLIF Bars, Larabars, KIND Bars, and Chia Bars. *Stay away from Special K bars – those have a lot of sugar.*
